This course is a must for businesses and staff wanting to upskill and take advantage of working with hybrid and battery electric technology today and into the future as the demand for skilled Hybrid and Battery Electric Technicians increases.

This course is a direct pathway to the MTA’s Electric Vehicle Technician Program. 

COURSE OUTLINE

All participants of this course need to demonstrate competency in:

  • Safe work practices and electrical safety relevant to HEV and BEV’s, including the principles of electricity, including AC and DC
  • General principles of operation and knowledge of components of electrical systems relevant to HEV and BEV’s
  • Applicable Commonwealth, state or territory legislation, regulations, standards and codes of practice relevant to working on HEV and BEV’s
  • Diagnosing and repairing high voltage rechargeable energy storage systems in BEV
  • Diagnosing and repairing auxiliary motors and associated components in BEV
  • Servicing and maintaining electrical components in HEV and BEV’s
FUNDED COURSE PREREQUISITES

This course is intended for qualified automotive technicians. To be eligible to receive funding, participants must hold one of the following qualifications:

  • AUR30320 Certificate III in Automotive Electrical Technology or equivalent
  • AUR30620 Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent
  • AUR31120 Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent

On completion of the course, participants will be awarded AURSS00064 – Battery Electric Vehicle Inspection and Servicing Skill Set. In addition, a Statement of Attainment will be awarded for all Hybrid Electric Vehicle units of competency completed.

Proof of qualification is required at enrolment.

NON-FUNDED COURSE PREREQUISITES

Participants who do not hold the qualifications listed above are not eligible to receive funding from the Government of South Australia. However, participants can still undertake the course to receive a Statement of Attainment for the units of competency achieved.

DELIVERY MODE

This course consists of a mixture of practical and theoretical components.

UNITS COVERED

Participants that successfully complete the course will be awarded the following units of competency:

  • AURETH110 Diagnose and repair high voltage rechargeable energy storage systems in hybrid electric vehicles* (prerequisite unit AURETR125 Test, charge and replace batteries and jump-start vehicles)
  • AURETH011 Depower and reinitialise hybrid electric vehicles
  • AURETH012 Service and maintain electrical components in hybrid electric vehicles
  • AURETH101 Depower and reinitialise battery electric vehicles
  • AURETH102 Inspect and maintain battery electric vehicles
  • AURETH103 Diagnose and repair high voltage rechargeable energy storage systems in battery electric vehicles
  • AURETH107 Diagnose and repair system instrumentation in safety interlocks in battery electric vehicles

*Evidence of the prerequisite unit will be required prior to course commencement, or you will be required to complete this additional unit.

COURSE DETAILS

Course times: 8:30 am to 4:30 pm

This course is held from Monday – Friday, delivered at MTA’s Royal Park Training Centre.

COURSE FEES

MTA Members – Funded: $1,000 | Non-funded: $1,900

MTA Non-Members – Funded: $1,300 | Non-funded: $2,200

Non-funded participants will be charged $1,500 on enrolment and will need to pay the remaining fees on Day 1 of the course.
