The automotive industry is experiencing rapid change with the increased uptake of battery electric and hybrid electric vehicles (HEV/BEV).

Participants will learn to ensure the vehicle’s high voltage (HV) rechargeable energy storage system (RESS) is isolated before commencing any service or repair work on hybrid electric vehicles and battery electric vehicles.

COURSE OUTLINE

All participants of this course need to demonstrate competency in:

  • Electrical safety relevant to HEV and BEV
  • General principles of operation of High Voltage and Low Voltage electrical systems relevant to BEVs, including AC and DC
  • Applicable Commonwealth, state or territory legislation, regulations, standards and codes of practice relevant to working on BEVs
  • Workplace policies and procedures, including quality, recording and reporting procedures relating to deactivating and reinitialising HEV power supplies in the automotive workplace
PREREQUISITES

This course is intended for those who wish to safely prepare an electric vehicle before beginning work on them. It is suited to people with an automotive background with an understanding of basic electrical principles that are requiring the skills and knowledge in high voltage safety awareness for the automotive workplace and onsite applications.

DELIVERY MODE

This course is delivered in a flexible, adult-learning environment. Prior to attending the course, all participants are required to complete an online learning module, designed to provide them with the knowledge to be able to successfully complete the practical component.

Participants that successfully complete the course will be awarded the following units of competency:

  • AURETH101 Depower and reinitialise battery electric vehicles
  • AURETH011 Depower and reinitialise hybrid electric vehicles
COURSE DETAILS

Prior to entering the workshop, a re-cap of theory and electrical principles will be undertaken to ensure participants have the knowledge and safety principles to successfully participate in the practical learning.

Course times: 8:30 am to 4:30 pm (1-day course) | 5.00 pm – 9.00 pm (course over 2 nights)

The above course times are subject to dates scheduled, this course may be held on a weekday, weekend or weeknight.

The course is delivered at MTA’s Royal Park Training Centre. On-site group bookings at your business can be accommodated subject to an MTA site inspection prior to booking confirmation.
