Ensuring Safety: The Importance of Injury Reporting

Public news

The MTA is committed to ensuring a safe working environment for all employees. Recently, there have been a few instances where our apprentices have been injured, and these incidents were not reported to the MTA. While we are actively reminding our apprentices of their responsibility to report any injuries to us, we would like to take this opportunity to remind our host employers that it is part of your Host Employer Agreement to ensure that the MTA is notified of any injury or return to work claims that involve MTA apprentices.

This helps MTA ensure that:

1) Injuries are treated appropriately

2) Return to Work claims are lodged in a timely manner

3) Incidents are managed appropriately and notification occurs to Regulators where the criteria is met for a notifiable incident

4) Where deemed appropriate, awareness campaigns about injury tends to attempt to prevent and/or reduce similar events can be initiated

In the event that an MTA apprentice sustains an injury while at work, it is essential for the host employer to promptly inform David Wheatcroft, the WHS Advisor and Return to Work Coordinator, at 0409 934 580 or dwheatcroft@mtasant.com.au. Regardless of the perceived significance of the injury, it is crucial to report it as per the Host Employer Agreement. An incident report will be necessary to document accurate information on how the incident occurred and the injuries that were sustained.
