Meet Colby, a former commercial deep-sea fisherman who fearlessly navigated the powerful waves of the Great Australian Bight. He is now an enthusiastic first-year apprentice enrolled in a Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology (AUR31120) at the MTA.
His passion for heavy engines was ignited during his time at sea, assisting the engineer and immersing himself in engine room duties. "The job involved being away at sea for two weeks, followed by a single day back on land, with a work schedule of two months on and one month off. Being in the company of the engineer onboard had a motivating effect on me."
"When I saw this job, I thought about how much I enjoy working on my own car and my experience with boat engine repairs. This led me to proceed with the decision. My Pop is also a skilled heavy diesel mechanic! "
Colby's ultimate aspiration is to complete his apprenticeship and remain with his host employer for an extended period, fueled by deep respect and gratitude.
Filled with excitement, Colby is eager to embark on his new path as an MTA apprentice, where he will have the invaluable opportunity to learn from experienced professionals in the industry.
