Meet our Automotive Industry Career Mentor, Ben Monro. Ben was formerly an apprentice at the MTA in 1986 and has now come back full circle to the MTA after working in other areas of the automotive industry.
Training and mentoring people of all ages is in Ben’s DNA; he ran his own PT business for 12 years coaching, training and mentoring people of all ages (including OSHC based kids in schools) and has managed stores for Auto Masters, mycar and Nikes Run Club across two SA stores.
Ben will be offering support to MTA apprentices and giving back to an industry that has provided him an incredible career. Within his first five weeks at the MTA, Ben has already signed up 86 students to the Automotive Industry Career Program.
From his own personal experience, Ben believes that the automotive industry is “crying out for great technicians and needs a level of support that will help reduce the attrition rate.” He aims to contribute towards the retaining of apprentices and will strive to create an environment that supports apprentices in their trade-school and personal life.
Outside of work, Ben enjoys family time, The World Game, AFL and most motor sports. He also loves a BBQ, beer and is partial to a good Shiraz… Ben is currently restoring a 1956 Oval window VW Beetle which takes up some of his spare time and will hopefully be completed towards the end of 2023. Stayed tuned!
