Meet Jay, a second-year MTA apprentice enrolled in Mobile Plant Technology who loves tinkering with his Yamaha YZF-R7 motorbike. In this spotlight feature, we break away from the usual car focus to showcase Jay and his customised bike.

Jay's prized possession, the Yamaha YZF-R7, embodies his passion. Customised with an SC-Project exhaust, adjustable plate on the back, custom LED indicators, and tail tidy, it mirrors Jay's dedication.

Growing up with his dad's car passion, Jay developed an interest in vehicles, particularly trucks. “I own a Subaru Impreza. Dad bought it for me with a blown engine. As a project, we worked on it together for my learner's permit. Just recently, I purchased my bike outright with the funds I saved during my apprenticeship. My plan is to keep saving for my future.”

Dedicated to becoming a Mobile Plant Diesel Mechanic, he's drawn to learning about large machines, mobile plant equipment, hydraulics and more. Hosted at Downer at Gillman, Jay enjoys a supportive environment and even got his bike licence with a co-worker.

Beyond work, Jay enjoys attending car shows. He is also currently preparing for his upcoming hill climb debut and getting ready for a bodybuilding competition scheduled for next year.
